Solar Plexus Chakra
The solar plexus chakra is located above your navel in the 'V' formed by your rib cage and is associated with the colour, yellow. The Sanskrit name for this chakra is; Manipura, pronounced 'man-i-poora' (pronounce the 'i' as in 'win'). This chakra represents your willpower, the drive and ability to complete things and see them through. This is where your own energy stems from, your self-determination and empowerment, your control and self-esteem.
Each chakra is linked with parts of your physical body, the solar plexus chakra represents; the middle back, digestive system, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, spleen, stomach, the diaphragm, muscles and sympathetic nervous system.
If your solar plexus chakra is functioning well you will be in tune with your inner desires and will have the courage to follow your dream, without letting the disapproval or different opinions of others sway you from your path. You will enjoy taking on new challenges and there will be no fear around expressing your thoughts or emotions. You mean what you say without any hidden agenda and you can use your will to make positive decisions whilst remaining non-judgemental. Others may describe you as being confident, responsible, warm or balanced. You accept yourself and others fully.
A mild imbalance in this chakra may show its self as a person who is insecure and fearful, unable to make any decisions about their life and they will have a general feeling that their life is not on track but they won't be sure how best to correct it. Or, it may show its self as the person who needs to control everything, others may refer to this person as a 'control freak', they may be aggressive, overly ambitious or manipulative in their need for power.
When an imbalance occurs it can either manifest as too much emphasis on a chakra or too little emphasis on a chakra. In this case, if there is too much emphasis on the solar plexus chakra you will likely have a need to control everything because of an underlying fear that if you do not, nothing will turn out alright. You will have an iron will but may be lacking the discernment which allows you to decide when and how to use your willpower. On the other hand, if there is too little emphasis on this chakra you may have low self-worth and be lacking in confidence, you may be the person that constantly undercharges for their work or you may be easily swayed from your true desire by others. You will not feel worthy to receive and are likely to become overly concerned with what other people think of you.
A major imbalance in the solar plexus chakra may show its self in the person who has developed Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, or it may manifest as a physical illness which is serious, such as; clinical depression, gallstones or diabetes.
Chakras can go in and out of balance as you go through your life, some imbalances are caused by physical injury and others by emotional trauma. In the cases of a major imbalance it is advised that the person should seek help in the form of counselling or go to see a Doctor.
Here are a few things you can do to help balance your solar plexus chakra yourself;
