Crown Chakra
The crown chakra is located on top of the head and is associated with the colour, violet and sometimes with the colours white or gold. The Sanskrit name for this chakra is; Sahasrara, pronounced 'sa-has-rah-ruh'. This chakra represents your wisdom, your connection with yourself and the higher realms. It represents self-realisation, enlightenment and as the base chakra connects us with the earth, our crown chakra connects us to all that is 'above' the earth.
Each chakra is linked with parts of your physical body, the crown chakra represents; pineal and pituitary glands, the mind, circulatory system, muscular and skeletal system, the body as a whole.
If your crown chakra is functioning well you will find that your intuition is both deep and powerful, you will be non-judgemental yet discerning and others may describe you as being enlightened. You will have no concerns over material or social status and are likely to be more concerned in being of help to others without any reward or interference from your ego.
If there is a mild imbalance in this chakra you may find that you feel your life lacks a true purpose or that there is a feeling of emptiness within. You may not be able to make a firm decision for yourself and will likely choose activities or belongings that provide instant reward/gratification to fill the empty feeling.
When an imbalance occurs it can either manifest as too much emphasis on a chakra or too little emphasis on a chakra. In this case, if there is too much emphasis on the crown chakra you will likely over intellectualize emotions, feelings or situations. Ignoring the emotional or psychological significance of a dream or situation, for example, in preference of logic and reason. You are likely to fill your life with material gain and transient pleasures. On the other hand, if there is too little emphasis on this chakra you may find that you become overly cynical of other people's belief systems, yet you are likely to hold very rigid beliefs of your own. You could be prone to forcing your beliefs onto others. Quite likely decision making will become very difficult and you may feel that your life is lacking in joy.
A major imbalance in the crown chakra could lead to psychotic episodes and complete disassociation from the physical body.
Chakras can go in and out of balance as you go through your life, some imbalances are caused by physical injury and others by emotional trauma and it is not uncommon for a blockage or imbalance to stem from childhood. In the cases of a major imbalance it is advised that the person should seek help in the form of counselling or a Doctor.
Here are a few things you can do to help balance your crown chakra yourself;
- Learn to meditate.
- Bring the colour Violet into your life.
- Go for an Indian head massage.
- Sit quietly, breath in through your nose and out through your mouth with pursed lips, repeat 11 times and then sit quietly for a while.
- Hang one of the associated crystals above your head and sit quietly for a while. (clear Quartz, Selenite, Blue Sapphire, Amethyst, Diamond).
- Go for a Reiki treatment.
- Place one of the associated crystals into a glass of spring water, place the glass in the sunlight and allow the crystal light energy to fill the room. (clear Quartz, Selenite, Blue Sapphire, Amethyst, Diamond).
- Find somewhere silent and simply sit and listen to the silence. Old churches are good for this exercise.
- Use one or some of the associated Essential Oils for this chakra, either in an oil burner or a couple of drops into your bath. (Jasmine, Ylang-ylang, Lotus, Frankincense).
