Brow Chakra
The brow chakra is located in the centre of the forehead, just above the brow line. This chakra is also known as the third eye and is associated with the colour, indigo. The Sanskrit name for this chakra is; Ajna, pronounced 'Aj-nuh. This chakra represents your intuition and imagination, your insight, spiritual awareness and vision.
Each chakra is linked with parts of your physical body, the brow chakra represents; the nose, ears, eyes, temples, forehead, face, the brain, head, pituitary gland, endocrine system, nervous system, hypothalamus.
If your brow chakra is functioning well you are able to clearly see and follow your life path, you will be strongly intuitive and will have trust in your intuition. You will be able to tune into your higher self and may experience phenomena such as; clairaudience, clairvoyance, visions, Déjà vu or memories of past lives. You are able to make decisions that are good for your soul and are unlikely to have fear of death.
A mild imbalance in your brow chakra can show its self as the person who finds it very difficult to plan ahead, there may be fear around future events and around death. You may find it difficult to have faith, you will struggle to accept anything that is not proven logically or scientifically.
When an imbalance occurs it can either manifest as too much emphasis on a chakra or too little emphasis on a chakra. In this case, if there is too much emphasis on the brow chakra you may find that you lose sense of reality, your imagination could be overactive, to the point of being delusional. You may struggle to plan ahead and could find that you suffer with headaches and nightmares. Others may describe you as living in a dream world. On the other hand, if there is too little emphasis on this chakra you may find that you can only accept logic as truth and are unable to comprehend anything that is not backed up by, or proven by science and in doing so you block your spirituality. You are likely to claim that you do not dream or that you cannot remember your dreams. You may also lack imagination and find it difficult to see your life path.
A major imbalance in this chakra could lead to problems such as schizophrenia or other serious mental illnesses.
Chakras can go in and out of balance as you go through your life, some imbalances are caused by physical injury and others by emotional trauma and it is not uncommon for a blockage or imbalance to stem from childhood. In the cases of a major imbalance it is advised that the person should seek help in the form of counselling or a Doctor.
Here are a few things you can do to help balance your brow chakra yourself;
- Spend time in nature.
- Bring the colour indigo into your life.
- Each evening take a moment to reflect on your day, mentally list the three most beautiful things you saw that day. It could be anything, as long as it was beautiful to you.
- Sit quietly, place your right hand to your right temple and your let hand to your left temple (with your fingers on both hands pointing to the back of your head) apply pressure, gently but firmly, to your temples for a few minutes. release and then sit quietly for a while.
- Take up meditation.
- Keep a dream diary.
- Learn eye exercises from a yoga teacher.
- Play memory games.
- Practice using your intuition, for example, practice 'sensing' who is calling when the phone rings.
